How it works

The article text behind each bookmark is turned into a representation of its meaning, so searching "telescope conference" finds a page titled "dotAstronomy 13".

Questions
Does Rummage send my bookmarks somewhere?
To make a page searchable by meaning, its text has to be processed by a language model. Rummage sends the title, folder name and roughly the first 1,500 characters of the article to OpenAI through our own server. The result comes back and is stored in your browser; nothing is kept on our side. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Which pages can't it read?
Anything behind a login or paywall, and sites that build their content with JavaScript. Rummage never uses your logged-in sessions, so those bookmarks are indexed by title and folder only, and are marked "title only" in results.
Do I need an API key?
No. Rummage covers the processing cost, on the free version as well as the paid one. There is nothing to sign up for.
What happens if I stop paying?
Nothing — it is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There is no recurring charge and nothing to cancel.
Can I use it on more than one computer?
Yes. Your license key activates on a limited number of browsers. If you need it moved, email us and we'll sort it out.
Why does Chrome warn about site access?
Because indexing a bookmark means downloading that page, and a bookmark can point anywhere. It is used only for pages you chose to index — Rummage does not watch your browsing.
